Aggression in dogs can cause a lot of problem to the dog-owner. When a dog is aggressive it can growl, lunge and bite even its own owner.One golden rule that every dog-owner needs to know is to never let your dog get dominant over you or other members of your family. The dog should know its social ranking and the fact that it is not dominant over any other family member. Here are a few ways to prevent aggressive dog behavior:1. If your dog is still aggressive, start finding why the dog might be aggressive. If your dog is a new mother, or it growls only when some other dog enters its territory it is fine.2. Check with a vet to ensure that the dog is not in pain or suffering from some illness that is causing him to be aggressive. Rule out medical causes for aggressive behavior.3. If you are unable to detect the reasons why your dog might be aggressive consult a dog behavior specialist who has a lot of experience to back him or her. It is vital that the specialist has a lot of experience in handling aggressive dogs because if he or she uses a wrong approach in dealing your dog the situation might worsen.4. Spay or neuter your pet. Male dogs tend to be more aggressive, and tend to be aggressive socially, territorial and more protective. Spaying them reduces this behavior.5. Keep your dog away from situations/ locations that make him more aggressive. If necessary keep him continued in a room and away from people.6. If your dog displays possessive aggression and is possessive about place, toy or treat keep it away from him.
