Good Dog Behaviour ? How To Establish It

It’s true that a young dog will learn more quickly than an older dog, but can you treat an old dog new tricks? So when is the best age to start teaching our dog?

We now realise that a good deal of learning happens when our puppy is very young and the period from a few weeks old to five moths is very important. This is when your puppy will learn much of what will influence their adult behaviour in later life. So really, the earlier we start to teach our new puppies and show them how we would like them to behave – the better life will be for everyone.

When our puppy grows up how would you want them to behave? Of course, you would like them to be well-behaved, happy and confident. So how do we go about achieving this? We can them by gently introducing them in the right way to situations and help them to like people when they are young. The first few months of your puppies life is when they learn the most and although he will continue to learn throughout his life, the rate of learning will slow down.

You must then, make the most of these precious first few weeks of his life to give our puppy the best start in life and establish a good foundation. But don’t worry if your dog is past this stage as there are many things that can be done – however they will be a little harder.. However, if your dog is showing undesirable habits then you must take things gradually.
